Brian Ó hEadhra’s concert in Budapest

The lecture hall of the Art Gallery was almost full on 16 June, when the Scottish star, Brian Ó hEadhra gave an exclusive, free concert, organized by the Albannach Scottish Cultural Society. The popular singer and his friend arrived from Inverness, invited by Albannach. The two Celts had a great time in Hungary, as they themselves put it: This is remek!

Staying Hungarian on Scottish land

It has now become a tradition that the leaders of Albannach participate in the programmes organized by Hungarians living in Scotland on 15 March. In 2005, the President of our society read out and handed over the Hungarian Home Secretary’s greeting letter and could also be present at the inauguration of the Kossuth memorial in Dunfermline. In 2006, our society sent an extended delegation, this time we took the greetings of the Hungarian Minister of Culture and the first Hungarian bagpiper with us.

The Panthers chose the kilt

The 140. Pro Patria and 020. Dir. Takó János troops of scouts organized a Camp of Nations in Nemesvita in the summer of 2005. Each team had to choose a nation which they represented during the camp and whose customs, traditions they presented to the other teams. The Black Panther Team led by Gergely Markó decided on Scotland and changed to Scottish Panthers for the time of the camp.

Photo exhibition in the Old Scotsman Restaurant

This year the Albannach Scottish Cultural Society also joined the St Andrews Day celebration and decided to commemorate the patron saint of Scotland with a unique and outstanding programme. The society volunteered to organize a photo exhibition. To our greatest pleasure, the Old Scotsman Restaurant agreed on providing home for the exhibition.

We have "run" the First Hungarian Burns Marathon!

Anyone could become part of a truly historical moment who stopped to listen to the First Hungarian Burns Marathon. This unique event, organized by the Albannach Scottish Cultural Society, presented Péter Kálloy Molnár, who as a literary marathon runner was reciting the poems of the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns for a whole hour on the stage of Duna Plaza. Several poems were accompanied by Scottish bagpipers, creating a new genre of duets.

We have been to the Scottish Parliament

We have witnessed a historic event: the Albannach Scottish Cultural Society opened the first Hungarian photo exhibition in the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. The pictures illustrating the programmes of our society were displayed in the Parliament for a week.

Hungarian filmstar at the Edinburgh Fringe!

A Hungarian play in the original language has been featured for the first time at this year’s 60th Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Hungarian actor Péter Kálloy Molnár performed the one-man piece “Nooky, Man in the Matchbox” at St. Mark’s Unitarian Church next to Edinburgh Castle.

Dozens of people participated in the commemoration for William Wallace
2005-09-17
Dozens of people participated in the commemoration organized by the Hungarian Albannach Scottish Cultural Society on 11 September. Members of the society and several other friends of Scotland lowered their heads and lightened their torches on the Heroes Square of Budapest to pay their respects to William Wallace - almost exactly at the same time when the funeral ceremony was held in Lanark.
