Kevock-concerts for the dreams of Hungarian children

Almost two hundred thousand Forints were collected during the Hungarian concerts of the Scottish choir, Kevock. Thus the Magic Lamp Foundation managed to fulfil the dreams of six ill children. One of the most famous Scottish choirs gave three concerts in our country, in Budapest, Eger and Miskolc.

The Day of a Hundred Smiles

„Mum, who are these men in skirts with the bags?” whispered one of the boys, in a slightly frightened voice. And the question was appropriate. It is quite unusual that the visitors of a children’s hospital wear traditional Scottish clothes. The first charity event of Albannach was called the Day of a Hundred Smiles. We took one hundred presents and gave them to the children staying in the children’s hospital of Madarász Street.

Charity lunch with the Highlander in Hungary

Although Christopher Lambert, starring a movie being shot in Hungary, comes from France, he has not forgotten that he owes his worldwide fame to one of his Scottish roles, that of the immortal Duncan McLeod. The Highlander has not forgotten about his “Scottish heritage” and held a charity lunch in the Le Meridien Hotel of Budapest on 15 April, where an autographed copy of his sword used in the movie was put up for auction. The majority of the income will be spent on helping sick children in Hungary, with the help of a Scottish foundation.

St. Andrews Day with world champion bagpipers

A private ball was held on 27 November 2004 in one of the exclusive hotels of Budapest, where diplomats and high-end business professionals celebrated the day of St. Andrews, the patron saint of Scotland. The sevenfold world champion bagpiper band, the Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band, also played at the charity event. The Albannach Scottish Cultural Society was represented by its president.

7,000,000 HUF at the charity Burns-evening

More than 7,000,000 HUF was collected by the Scottish to help Hungarian children. The traditional Burns-evening took place in an elegant hotel in Budapest and the income of the event was given to Hungarian hospitals this time as well. The event also gave place to the first official introduction of the Robert Burns International Foundation located in Hungary...

Charitable Scots

Leaders of the Scottish-Hungarian Friendly Society were awarded a diploma of merit and a medallion by the Tumor Leukemia Foundation for their regular donations supporting sick children. The awards were handed over at the II. Department of Pediatrics, Semmelweis University.
